Homemade Chili.

Ingredients

Meat: 1 lb (500g) Ground beef.

Beans: 1 can (15 oz) Kidney beans (drained and rinsed).

Vegetables: 1 onion (chopped), 2 cloves garlic (minced), 1 green bell pepper (diced).

Liquid Base: 2 tbsp Tomato paste, 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed or diced tomatoes.

The Spices (The Secret): 1 tbsp Chili powder, 1 tsp Cumin, 1 tsp Paprika, salt, and black pepper to taste.

Broth: 1 cup Beef broth or water.

Preparation Method

Brown the Meat: In a large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

Sauté Vegetables: Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Seasoning: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, and paprika. Toast the spices with the meat for about a minute to release their oils.

The Sauce: Pour in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and broth. Bring the mixture to a light boil.

Add Beans: Stir in the kidney beans and reduce the heat to low.

Simmer: Cover and let the chili simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken perfectly, just like in your photo.

Serving Suggestion

To take it to the next level, top it with shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, or some fresh cilantro. It also goes great with a side of warm cornbread.
