Beef Tips with Brown Gravy

Beef Tips with Brown Gravy
This classic comfort food features tender chunks of beef simmered in a rich, flavorful gravy. It is perfect for serving over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Ingredients
The Meat: 2 lbs of beef tips or sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized cubes.
The Aromatics: 1 small onion (finely diced) and 2 cloves of garlic (minced).
The Liquid Base: 2 cups of beef broth and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce (for deep color and umami).
Thickening Agent: 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour or cornstarch.
Seasoning: Salt, black pepper, onion powder, and a splash of oil or butter for searing.
Preparation Steps
Sear the Beef: Pat the beef cubes dry and season them with salt and pepper. In a large skillet (like the one in the photo), heat oil over high heat. Sear the beef until deeply browned on all sides, then remove and set aside.
Sauté: In the same pan, add the diced onions and cook until softened. Stir in the minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Make the Gravy: * Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute to cook out the raw flour taste.
Slowly pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce while whisking constantly to ensure a smooth, lump-free texture.
Simmer: Return the beef to the skillet. Cover with a lid (as shown in the image) and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 30–45 minutes until the beef is fork-tender.
Final Touch: If the gravy is too thin, let it simmer uncovered for a few extra minutes to thicken to your liking.
Serving Suggestion
This dish is best enjoyed over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes or egg noodles to soak up all that delicious gravy.
