A simple and ultra-gourmet classic, perfect for a quick dinner or a comforting appetizer!
Ingredients (Serves 4)
1 Baguette.
4 slices of Ham (Jambon), diced or cut into small pieces.
3 to 4 tbsp Crème Fraîche (or heavy cream/sour cream).
1 cup Shredded Cheese (such as Mozzarella, Emmental, or Gruyère).
Salt and Black Pepper to taste.
Optional: A pinch of dried oregano or a hint of garlic powder for extra flavor.
Preparation Method
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 180-200°C (350-400°F).
Prepare the Bread: Slice the baguette in half lengthwise, then cut each half into two pieces to get 4 long portions.
The Base: In a small bowl, lightly season the crème fraîche with salt and pepper.
Layering: * Spread a generous layer of crème fraîche over the open face of each baguette piece.
Evenly distribute the ham pieces over the cream.
Top everything with a thick layer of shredded cheese.
Baking (Gratinée): Place the baguettes on a baking tray and bake for 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and beautifully golden brown.
Serving: Serve hot immediately, ideally with a side of fresh green salad.
Pro Tip: If you want an extra crunch, you can toast the bread slices for 2 minutes in the oven before adding the toppings!
