Fried Alligator

 

Ingredients

 

Alligator meat, cut into bite-size pieces

 

Buttermilk

 

All-purpose flour

 

Cornmeal

 

Garlic powder

 

Onion powder

 

Paprika

 

Cayenne pepper

 

Salt

 

Black pepper

 

Oil for frying

 

Instructions

 

Soak the alligator pieces in buttermilk for 1–2 hours to tenderize and add flavor.

 

In a bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne, salt, and black pepper.

 

Remove the meat from the buttermilk and dredge each piece well in the seasoned coating.

 

Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F / 175°C.

 

Fry the coated alligator pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3–4 minutes.

 

Drain on paper towels and serve hot with lemon wedges and a creamy dipping sauce
