Amish White Bread
Ingredient:
– **2 ½ teaspoons** active dry yeast
– **1 cup** warm water
– **1 tablespoon** sugar
– **3 cups** all-purpose flour
– **1 tablespoon** vegetable oil
– **1 teaspoon** salt
– **1 tablespoon** honey
### Instructions
1. **Prepare the Yeast**:
– In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2. **Mix Dry Ingredients**:
– In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
3. **Add Wet Ingredients**:
– Pour the yeast mixture, oil, and honey into the flour mixture and mix until a dough forms.
4. **Knead the Dough**:
– Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
5. **First Rise**:
– Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a lid or cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
6. **Shape the Bread**:
– After rising, punch down the dough to release air, then divide it into small balls and place them in a greased baking pan.
7. **Second Rise**:
– Cover the balls and let them rise again until doubled (about 30 minutes).
8. **Baking**:
– Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the balls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
9. **Serving**:
– Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. You can brush them with butter when serving.
