Apple Hand Pies (Fried & Sugar-Coated)
Ingredients
For the Dough:
All-Purpose Flour: 250g (Metric).
Butter: 50g (Cold and cubed).
Sugar: 1 tablespoon.
Milk or Water: 100ml – 120ml (Cold).
Salt: A pinch.
For the Apple Filling:
Apples: 2–3 medium apples (Peeled and finely diced).
Sugar: 50g (Metric).
Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon.
Butter: 1 tablespoon.
Cornstarch: 1 teaspoon (Mixed with a little water).
For the Coating:
Granulated Sugar & Cinnamon (Mixed together).
Instructions
Prepare the Filling: In a pan over medium heat, sauté the apples with butter, sugar, and cinnamon until tender. Add the cornstarch mixture and stir until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
Make the Dough: Mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Incorporate the cold butter using your fingertips until the mixture resembles crumbs. Gradually add milk or water until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Shape the Pies: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into circles. Place a spoonful of the cooled apple filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges firmly with a fork.
Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the pies until they turn a beautiful golden brown on both sides.
The Final Touch: While the pies are still warm, toss them in the sugar and cinnamon mixture until evenly coated.
