– Small cocktail sausages (cocktail or Vienna sausages) — about 500 g (1 lb).
– Butter or oil for frying/roasting — 1–2 tablespoons.
– Honey or maple syrup — 3–4 tablespoons.
– Brown sugar or sweet barbecue sauce — 2–3 tablespoons (optional, for deeper flavor).
– Soy sauce — 1 tablespoon (for saltiness and color).
– White vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice — 1 teaspoon (to balance the sweetness).
– Minced garlic or garlic powder — 1/2 teaspoon (optional).
– Black pepper or chili flakes to taste.
– Cornstarch mixed with a little water (to thicken) — 1 teaspoon (optional).
– A light dusting of powdered sugar or sesame seeds for garnish (the photo shows a white dusting on top).
Short preparation method:
1. Brown the sausages in a skillet with a little oil until nicely caramelized.
2. In a bowl, mix honey (or maple syrup) with brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic.
3. Add the sauce to the skillet and cook, stirring, until the sausages are fully coated and the sauce turns sticky. If desired, add the cornstarch slurry to thicken.
4. Serve hot; optionally sprinkle a little powdered sugar, sesame seeds, or chopped parsley for garnish
