A classic American dessert with a juicy blackberry base and a soft, golden crust on top.

🛒 Ingredients

🔹 Blackberry Filling:

4 cups fresh or frozen blackberries

¾ cup sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, if the berries are very juicy)

🔹 Batter Topping:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

A pinch of salt

1 cup milk

½ cup melted butter

👩‍🍳 Instructions

Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

Prepare the filling

In a bowl, mix the blackberries with sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch.

Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.

Prepare the batter

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add the milk and stir until smooth.

Assemble

Pour the melted butter over the blackberry mixture in the baking dish.

Then pour the batter evenly over the top. (Do not stir — it will form layers while baking.)

Bake

Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.

Serve

Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream 🍨.
